Volunteer In the Community
Wild Ones would like to invite you to get outside and get your hands dirty by helping with worthy projects in our community. These work days aren't "official" Wild Ones events, but the folks in charge would love your help. So get a group of Wild Ones friends together or stop by on your own to lend a hand to these community projects.
Lutheran Home at Toledo is an extended care and assisted living facility in east Toledo. Just north of their northern parking lot is a wetland area owned by City of Toledo Parks & Forestry. To reduce parking lot runoff reaching the wetland, Lutheran Home and the Duck and Otter Creeks Partnership installed a winding permeable pathway lined with native gardens. There are four distinct native gardens along the path: Demonstration, Butterfly, Songbird, and Cut Flower.
In addition to these native gardens, there is a 3-acre prairie on the east side of the Lutheran Home property. The native gardens and the prairie need attention each season. Sue Horvath has asked the Wild Ones to lend a hand. There are no more scheduled work days this season, but there still may be work to do. Volunteer if you can by calling Sue Horvath to ask how you can help.
Location: Lutheran Home at Toledo, 131 N. Wheeling Street, Toledo, OH 43605.
Contact: Sue Horvath 419-367-2311. Call Sue to see if she has any work days scheduled or to see how you can help with your own work day.
Looking for a way to make a difference in the community? Join us to restore wildlife habitat in Sylvania. Wear long pants and bring gloves if you have them. All necessary tools provided by TOPS; volunteers will need transportation to worksite.
Register: Call Erika Buri at 419-882-8313, extension 29. Pre-registration required.
Location: Olander Park, 6930 Sylvania Ave, Sylvania, OH.
Meet at the Maintenance Building. Turn right after entering the park, and park in the first parking lot on your left.
