The WILD Center property, located adjacent to Stroebe Marsh on the west shore of Little Lake Buttes de Morts, is comprised largely of wet-mesic woodland and marsh, and totals 16 acres. The building occupies the center of an upland area approximately 1/2-acre in size, that previously was managed as a conventional residential landscape, with extensive mown lawn and non-native plantings. The 3-acre upland to the south of the WILD Center will eventually be developed into an oak savanna and prairie. Restoration plans include removal of buckthorn from the wooded area, and introduction of more diversified upper, middle, and lower level story tree and shrub species and ground cover. With that in mind, we asked Wild Ones members for landscaping designs for our new National Headquarters, and here are their great ideas.
